Hiori and Karasu come together for Blue Lock’s next play.
Although Isagi’s Ego doesn’t let him entertain the thought of being the second best like Hugo suggested, it seems that not everyone in Blue Lock is the same. In the recent chapter of the manga, we see that Karasu has taken Hugo’s words to heart, and plans to control the field as the second best to help his team win. Instead of passing the ball to Isagi or Rin, who are more conventional choices for strikers, he goes for a teammate who is in a similar boat as him.

Blue Lock Chapter 335 recap

The chapter begins with the French goalkeeper Renoir making a long throw towards Loki, who starts running towards Japan's goalpost with the ball. On the sidelines, Anri asks Jinpachi Ego what they should do since none of their plans are working against France, but Ego stays quiet. Loki starts to run at full speed, and it seems nobody can catch up to him. But Blue Lock’s own speedmaster, Chigiri, runs up behind France’s ace and tries to stop him. Chigiri soon realises that not only is Loki fast, but he can also push through players due to his great strength.
At that moment, Karasu sweeps in and steals the ball from Loki. But although he was able to get the ball due to Chigiri’s intervention, he doesn’t know what to do next. He realises that Isagi isn’t effective anymore and remembers Hugo’s words about being the second best. Elsewhere on the field, Isagi also feels despair at the thought of being outwitted by France. He realises that if he stops worrying about his own goals and focuses on helping the team win, they will likely evolve and even defeat France, the king of football. But that won’t be Blue Lock. The ego that constantly wants to become the world’s best striker should never waver.

He asks Karasu for a pass and promises that he will make it happen. But Karasu realises that if they keep relying on Isagi, Blue Lock will die right here. And for Blue Lock’s sake, he will have to change and evolve. Karasu vows to become the second best, just like Hugo said. He uses Isagi as bait to dribble past the players. Isagi wonders if Karasu plans to score a goal on his own seeing they never practiced a move like that. Renoir warns his team for a shot, but Karasu doesn’t plan on making the goal himself.
Instead, he decides to stop thinking of himself as a striker. Right now, he wants to erase all the needless info and use himself as the second best to devise a new plan. He is going to make the team win by staying in control of the field. He looks at all his teammates, and decides that neither Isagi, nor Rin or Chigiri are ideal people to pass to right now as they’re being covered by France. Right now, the most suitable for a goal is an extraordinary striker. In the next panel, we see Karasu passing the ball to Hiori, Blue Lock’s brilliant passer. It seems that Karasu plans to use Hiori to score Japan’s first goal in the match.
Blue Lock Chapter 335 review

Although becoming the second best goes against Blue Lock’s philosophy, I’m glad that Karasu decided to break away from the pattern for the match. If they stay stuck within the same doctrine, then at some point, a powerful opponent will figure out their gameplan and stand up as an unscalable wall. With this new evolution, Karasu plans to devise a plan devoid of Isagi, who is constantly being targeted by France. I don’t know if his move will work, but it gives the readers something new to look at, while also opening a brand new avenue for Blue Lock.
