All MARVEL manga published by Shueisha will end distribution on 30 September, 2026.

Japan’s biggest manga publishing company Shueisha is officially cutting its ties with Walt Disney Japan. This spells devastating news for the fans as all MARVEL comics currently published by Shueisha will end publication on 30 September, 2026.

Why is Shueisha terminating its contract with Walt Disney Japan?

Shueisha’s official post on X (formerly Twitter) was not clear on why the split is happening. It states (machine translation):

Thank you for your continued patronage of our comics.

Shueisha Inc. will terminate its contract with Walt Disney Japan Co., Ltd. regarding the publication of comic adaptations of MARVEL characters on September 30, 2026. Following the termination of the contract, the sale of currently available MARVEL collaboration works, including Jump Comics, will be discontinued sequentially as follows.

The physical comic books will be discontinued once the current stock at stores is depleted.

The digital version of the comic will be discontinued from all e-book stores on 30 September, 2026 (Wednesday) at 11:59 PM JST.

Distribution will be gradually discontinued at each e-book store from September 28 to September 30, 2026.

Works you have purchased will still be viewable at each e-book store even after distribution is discontinued.

For questions regarding the distribution status of the digital version of the comic, please contact the e-book store you are using.

From the statement, it can be deduced that the physical copies of all current MARVEL manga will be limited in stock and once they are all bought out, they will not be replenished. Customers are requested to place their orders as soon as possible, but since the stock is limited, not all pre-orders might be fulfilled.

However, those who have bought digital copies of the works will be able to read them even after 30 September.

The MARVEL manga titles that readers will have to say goodbye to include: MARVEL x Shonen Jump+ SUPER COLLABORATION, SECRET REVERSE, Spider-Man: Octopus Girl, Spider-Man: Kizuna, and Deadpool: SAMURAI.
