Shidou, Barou, and Kunigami enter the field.
In the previous chapter of the Blue Lock manga, we saw that Jinpachi Ego was planning to change players after Hugo’s goal. During the halftime break, we see him talking to the players and telling them why their philosophy of everyone trying to become the world’s best striker is so integral to their victory. However, Ego also agrees that their goal strategies centred around Isagi have all failed. So in the second half, he brings in three new players to form a fully attack oriented formation. Isagi is excited to play against Hugo.

Blue Lock Chapter 339 recap

The issue begins with the Blue Lock players talking about France in their dressing room. Reo wonders how they are supposed to win now that most of their attacks involving Isagi have been rendered useless. Bachira thinks since the team was built around Isagi, so they can figure something out. But Reo thinks they will lose with that mindset. Karasu says they can make up new patterns like the goal with Hiori, and he will be the team’s second best instead of Isagi. But Ego enters the room and tells him to watch what he says and asks if he is trying to kill Blue Lock.
He applauds Karasu’s quick witted gameplay, but doesn’t support his mindset because partway through the game, he gave up on making his own goals. Karasu says he thought it was the best for the team, and Ego answers that those who fight for the team are worthless. If every player started playing based on their suitability, football will be nothing but a competition of physical abilities and tactics. France is a multiethnic country with a welcoming culture, the variety of talents produced there lead to diverse football techniques. This makes it possible for suitable talents for every position to be born.

However, if Japan tries to handpick an outstanding team of players with suitable talents like France, they won’t have a chance of winning. Telling people to live suitably and be happy with their position in life is how the strong control the weak to control their possibilities. Since they are weak, they will never change the world if they lived suitably. That’s why Ego told everyone to become strikers, as the philosophy of going beyond one’s suitability is the heart of Blue Lock. If all these players lived a hundred lives, then they would probably get only one chance to become the world’s best striker. An egoist lives for that one chance, that would never have happened if they lived suitably.
Isagi feels a shudder listening to Ego’s words. Karasu says that Ego still can’t deny that their current approach is not working. Ego agrees, and says that if they want something new, they need to get rid of something old. Ego tells them to drop the Isagi-centred strategy and hands them the new formation Blue Lock will use for the second half. In France’s locker room, we see their coach Rodin tell them that they’re the strongest generation, God’s once-in-a-century chosen ones. They won’t just change France’s history, but all of football forever. He calls them France’s new Les Bleus, and tells them to go make history.

Walking out of the room, Loki asks Charles to give him more line breaking passes because if the match ends without him scoring a goal, the world will be sad. Charles teases him and says he will pass him some nasty shots. Hugo comes up behind them and tells Loki not to worry because the match won’t end like this and will get messy. It seems that Blue Lock has chosen ‘that’ destiny. We see that Japan has brought in three new egotistical players: Ryusei Shidou, Shohei Barou, and Rensuke Kunigami.
They are replacing Bachira, Niko, and Chigiri who played in the first half. Isagi realises that Ego is going for an all-out attack formation with these three. He realises that the strategy centering around himself was obliterated because of Hugo, who is more talented and a bigger dreamer. Although this is the worst possible situation, Isagi can’t help but feel excited. His Ego is screaming for him to surpass Hugo. The match begins again, with the score 2-1 in France’s favour.
Blue Lock Chapter 339 review

Blue Lock’s Jokers are here. With their unpredictable and selfish playstyle, Shidou, Barou, and Kunigami are all pretty risky additions to the field. However, Ego is not afraid of taking a risk when their plans are not working. However, it seems that France had already anticipated this and might have some moves up their sleeves to stop them. Isagi is clearly excited and so are we? Is there truly a way for Blue Lock to win this game or will this be their first wall in the World Cup?
