We learn the history of the two talented French players.
In the previous chapter of the Blue Lock manga, we saw Barou steal the ball from Shidou and score an impressive goal with the help of Karasu. With the score now even at 2-2, Isagi starts to worry that Blue Lock will fall into Karasu’s hands. But soon enough, Hugo and Loki take out their big guns. Their precise chemistry on the field causes chaos, and it seems nobody on the Japanese team is prepared enough to stop them.

What happened in Blue Lock Chapter 343?

The issue begins with a young Hugo telling some of his former teammates about an extensive strategy. Unfortunately, none of them seem to understand it and think he’s trying too hard. He knows he needs a suitable environment, a coach, a good team, and finally a world class striker. The last one is hard to find. He gets into trouble with another player after telling him he’s not talented enough to become the world’s best striker. Suddenly, a young Julien Loki comes to his rescue.
Loki, the new player on the team, introduces himself and says he wants to win the world cup a few times. The cogs fall into place for Hugo as he realises that this absurdly arrogant guy is a born number one. Some time after, they are seen talking to each other on the field and Hugo says his dream is to win the world cup four times. Loki laughs and says he’s happy to finally meet someone who has a dream as tyrannical as his own.

Back in the present, the match starts again, and Hugo starts moving with the ball with perfect skills. Instead of passing to the strikers who close in on the midfield, he uses them as decoy to find the perfect shortcut towards the opposition’s goalpost. Karasu is sure he’s going to pass eventually, and Kunigami tries to stop him physically. However, Loki is already there right behind Hugo with his insane speed. Hugo kicks the ball hard, and all the Blue Lock players try to stop Loki.
Oliver thinks about tackling him even if it means he’ll get a foul. But he realises that Loki is speeding up impossibly without even looking at Hugo’s pass. We see that both Loki and Hugo know where the perfect pass is going and that Loki will reach it in time. The rare combination of their talents is almost unbeatable. Gagamaru realises their plan, but knows he won’t be able to stop it. Loki kicks the ball into Japan’s goal with perfect precision, making the score 3-2 in France’s favour.
Blue Lock Chapter 344 review

It was fun to see how Loki and Hugo met, and how their interests and talents lined up so perfectly. In the end, their violent playstyle was successful, and France is ahead again. This might be a setup for another one of Isagi’s last-moment evolutions, and the game will probably go into overtime. But I think Blue Lock needs to lose this match to have a true chance at evolving as a team and reviewing their tried and tested methods that all seem to revolve around Isagi. I am looking forward to seeing what Japan does next.
