Anya wonders if the respectable Eden Academy teacher can actually be guilty.
The most recent chapter of Tatsuya Endo’s Spy x Family manga took us down yet another sub-plot, although this one seems to be loosely connected to Anya and her friends going to the haunted mansion a few chapters ago. The respectable teacher Henry Henderson is accused of taking bribes and leaking the exam questions. Although he claims to be innocent, he plans to quit teaching as he doesn’t want the school and its students to be put under scrutiny. However, Anya might have a way to save him.

The issue opens with the news that someone has anonymously accused Henry Henderson of taking bribes. The students are all gathered around the notice board, on which there is a newspaper report with a picture of a man giving Henderson a suitcase full of cash. The author of the news story speculated that in return for the cash, Henderson gave that man test questions as the other person seems to be an Eden Academy student’s parent.
Henderson is called for a meeting with the headmaster and other staff, and says that he never took a bribe. He learns that an anonymous journalist claims to have taken the picture and written the article. While talking to the headmaster, Henderson reveals that he is in charge of taking the next elementary level midterm exams. When the headmaster asks to see the questions, Henderson takes him to the designated room and opens the safe where the questions were kept. But we see that the questions aren’t there. Although Henderson claims to have nothing to do with it, some people start suspecting him.
Later, we see another teacher taking Henderson’s class that Anya, Betty, Damian, and the others attend. They also overhear students talking about how their Cecile Hall students must be cheating to get good marks since Henderson is their Hall Master. Anya rips off one of the news reports from the notice board and takes it to her father. Loid already knew about it, but he tells Anya that a single piece of paper isn’t enough proof. In his mind, he thinks how hard it would be to disprove the article and asks Anya what she thinks. She says that she doesn’t know but she wants to ask and find out. Loid wonders if the Ministry of Education and the SSS will crack down on Eden Academy soon. He also thinks the allegation against Henderson might be true.
The next day, the students are shocked to learn that Henderson has resigned from his job. A teacher tries to reason with Henderson but he’s determined to leave and says although the headmaster protected him, it’s time for him to step down. On his way out, he meets Ms. Schlag, who also wants to stop him. Henderson says he will cooperate with the investigation, but he’s grown too weary. The students then all surround him and beg him not to go. Looking at their crying faces, Henderson assures them that they have nothing to worry about. He also promises them he hasn’t done anything wrong, and the students don’t understand the reason behind his resignation if he’s innocent.
Reading his mind, Anya learns that his conscience is clear and he’s sure that he has never done anything that could put such a smear on his career. He is determined to submit his resignation to the Department of Education and the other teacher suggests to the students that they can arrange for a farewell party. Martha comes to pick Henry up from school. Suddenly, Connie smells her holy water blend around them and sees a teacher. She is scared that it’s a ghost and sure that the man was the spirit in the haunted mansion the other day. Anya reads his mind and realises that he fabricated the lies against Henderson to make him quit. In the end, Anya determinedly follows the man to save Henderson.
Spy x Family Chapter 124 review
Although this still feels like a side-quest, I’m glad Anya and her friends’ haunted mansion trip was part of something bigger and more important. I’m eager to find out why the man is so determined to kick Henderson out of the school, even if it means spreading false rumours about him. Hopefully, Anya is able to find out before it’s too late and Mr. Henderson actually quits.
