Haikyu!! movie and special project details
A short PV has been released regarding both of these projects. Although it doesn’t provide any details about the actual movie and special episode, it features their central characters: Hinata and Bokuto. A visual, depicting the two characters going into their respective quarterfinal matches at the Nationals, has also been released.
The upcoming movie, Haikyu!! vs. The Little Giant (Haikyu!! vs. Chiisana Kyojin) will likely be the last installment in the anime franchise. It was previously announced that the last part of Haruichi Furudate’s beloved manga will be adapted into a two-part movie series. The first movie was titled Haikyu!! The Dumpster Battle, depicting the deciding match between Karasuno and Nekoma, came out in February 2024.
The upcoming second film will adapt the quarterfinal match between Karasuno and Kamomedai High School. Korai Hoshiumi, the star player of Kamomedai has the nickname ‘Little Giant’, which also belonged to a player Hinata looks up to. Susumu Mitsunaka is returning to direct the movie at Production I.G. Fans are getting ready for the emotional finale to this volleyball saga.
On the other hand, the special episode Haikyu!! The Place Where Monsters Go (Haikyu!! Bakemonotachi no Iku Tokoro), will be released on Japanese television sometime in 2027. It will feature the electric-charged quarterfinal match between Bokuto’s team Fukurodani and Mujinazaka High School, and their star player Wakatsu Kiryu.
The Haikyu!! anime is adapted from Haruichi Furudate’s manga series of the same name. Viz Media published the manga in English, and describes the story as such:
Ever since he saw the legendary player known as “the Little Giant” compete at the national volleyball finals, Shoyo Hinata has been aiming to be the best volleyball player ever! Who says you need to be tall to play volleyball when you can jump higher than anyone else?
After losing his first and last volleyball match against Tobio Kageyama, “the King of the Court,” Shoyo Hinata swears to become his rival after graduating middle school. But what happens when the guy he wants to defeat ends up being his teammate?!
