The live-action movie adaptation of Tatsuki Fujimoto’s one-shot manga “Look Back” is set to premiere in Japan sometime in 2026. Although the movie is set to premiere in Japanese theatres this year, the exact release date remains unknown. Hopefully, GKids will also announce the theatrical premiere date for the film for the aforementioned countries.

Palme d'Or winning director Hirokazu Kore-eda is directing the movie. He is also the screenwriter and editor. Daiju Koede is producing the movie under his K2 Pictures banner, who will also distribute the movie in Japan. The film is the first live-action adaptation of any of Fujimoto’s works. Look Back also received an anime movie adaptation in 2024, and received widespread critical acclaim across the world. People are looking forward to how Kore-eda works his magic on the live-action film.

The Look Back one shot manga is created by Chainsaw Man author Tatsuki Fujimoto. It was published in 2021 in Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ platform. The touching story revolves around two young girls Ayumu and Kyomoto who share a dream of becoming manga creators. The story delves into themes of creativity, passion, and the impact of relationships on personal growth. Look Back explores the emotional struggles of pursuing artistic perfection, the sacrifices it demands, and the bonds that shape our lives.
