The Gintama anime released its Yoshiwara in Flames arc from 2009 as a compilation movie on 13 February this year. The film is finally coming to global streaming platform Netflix in August.
Titled “Gintama: Yoshiwara in Flames” (Gintama the Movie 2026: Yoshiwara in Flames by Netflix), the movie will begin streaming on 27 August, 2026 only on Netflix.

When is the Gintama: Yoshiwara in Flames movie coming to Netflix?
As per the X (formerly Twitter) post by the official Netflix Anime account, the movie will begin streaming on the platform on 27 August. The post describes the film’s plot as:
To reunite a boy with his mother, Gintoki and his friends must face the darkness lurking within the red-light district of Yoshiwara.
Naoya Ando directed the movie at BN Pictures with Yoichi Fujita supervising. The film opened in Japanese theatres on 13 February, 2026.
The movie covers the original manga’s Yoshiwara Enjo arc, which was adapted in episodes 139 to 146 of the anime in 2009.
What is Gintama about?
The Gintama anime is based on Hideaki Sorachi’s action comedy manga of the same name. It began serialising in Shueisha’s Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine in 2003 where it ran till 2018. Then it moved to Jump Giga where it was serialised till February 2019. The manga concluded in the Gintama app in June 2019.
