Three new cast members join the Madhouse film ahead of its February 2027 premiere.
The upcoming original anime film “ghost – end of night” has revealed three new cast members. The film is directed by Shingo Natsume, with animation by Madhouse, and will premiere in Japanese cinemas on 11 February, 2027.

What do we know about the “ghost – end of night” anime film so far?
The newly announced cast members are:
- Kenjirō Tsuda as Moby Dick, a man who takes an interest in Neekei
- Hiroki Yasumoto as Karate, Masu’s childhood friend and a section manager at Neekei’s observatory
- Hiroshi Kamiya as Itō, Masu’s childhood friend and the observatory’s mental coach
The main cast members are:
- Mayu Hotta as Neekei
- Issei Takahashi as Masu
The original work is credited to Shingo Natsume, Tomohiro Suzuki, Bandai Namco Filmworks, and MADHOUSE. Shingo Natsume is also directing the movie at studio MADHOUSE. Natsume Ono is credited for the original character designs while Norifumi Kugai is the movie’s character designer. Ozora Kimishima composes the score while Hitsujibungaku composes and performs the theme and insert songs. Bandai Namco Filmworks is the distributor of the movie.
Artist himiko also began a manga adaptation of the movie on 4 August in Kadokawa’s Young Ace magazine.
Shingo Natsume previously described the movie’s story as (machine translates):
Despair and prayer. A desire to know “the truth that cannot be seen with the eye.”
This film depicts the trajectory of a 15-year-old girl as she descends into the depths of night. She possesses both sane madness and an overly pure rebellious spirit. The sight of her reaching out for “the beautiful things that are truly there” in the darkness may appear to each viewer as despair, or something entirely different. However, this is also a universal story that stirs the conflicting emotions that everyone hides deep within their hearts. We hope you will search for that faint light on the screen.
“ghost – end of night” will open in Japan on 11 February, 2027. The film was also screened at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival and Variety’s Animation Is Film festival, which ran from 16 to 19 October, 2026.
