French-Japanese co-production anime “Aoki Denshō Welsh & Shedar” to air on 2 October

The anime’s cast and staff have also been revealed. 

French entertainment company Ankama (Dofus, Wakfu) has announced that they are coc-producing a new anime series titled “Aoki Denshō Welsh & Shedar” (The Azure Legend: Welsh & Shedar), which will debut on 2 October, 2026. The main cast, staff, and a key visual have also been revealed.

What do we know about “Aoki Denshō Welsh & Shedar” so far?

The anime will debut on 2 October, 2026 on Tokyo MX. 

The main cast of the series includes:

  • Rikuya Yasuda as Welsh
  • Yuki Kaji as Shedar

Naoki Horiuchi is directing the Aoki Denshō Welsh & Shedar anime at Studio Massket, with Saori Nakashiki designing the characters. Nakashiki is also one of the chief animation directors along with Yoshiaki Tsubata and Yuki Ikeda. Tot is the one credited for the original story, script, and drafting the plot outline. In Japanese, Kenichi Yamashita is writing the scripts.

The anime tells the story of a 16 year old boy named Welsh and a prince named Shedar. Though from two different walks of life, the two boys’ fates intertwine when they try to stop a tyrant from taking over their land. 

French company Ankama is an independent entertainment and digital creation group mostly known for their 2004 tactical MMORPG named Dofus. They also published Atsushi Kaneko's manga SOIL, and Suguro Chayamachi's manga Togainu no Chi in French.
