The anime will premiere on 9 October, 2026.
A few weeks ago, it was announced that the “Firefly Wedding” (Hotaru no Yomeiri) anime will premiere on 9 October, 2026. In a brand new trailer, the series’ opening theme song has been revealed. The anime is based on Oreco Tachibana’s manga.
The anime will be part of Crunchyroll's Fall 2026 lineup.

What do we know about the Firefly Wedding anime so far?
The anime’s opening theme song is ‘Period’ performed by iri. The song will launch on 18 November, 2026.
TOOBOE performs the anime’s ending theme song ‘Yumegokochi’ (Trance).
The anime will premiere on 9 October, 2026. Crunchyroll will stream the anime globally as it airs.
The anime’s cast so far includes:

Takahiro Kamei directs the anime at David Productions, with Yukiko Akikei designing the characters. The new update also announced that the series composition will be done by Yuko Kakihara, while NOGRID composes the music.

What is Firefly Wedding about?
The Firefly Wedding manga, created by Oreco Tachibana, began publishing on Shogakukan’s Ura Sunday manga website and MangaONE app back in January 2023. The final chapter of the manga came out on 2 February, 2026.
Viz Media publishes the physical copies of the manga in English and describes the story as:
Afflicted with a heart condition, Meiji-era noblewoman Satoko is determined to secure a marriage that will benefit her family before she dies. But before she can realize her goal, she’s targeted by a mysterious assassin named Shinpei. In a last-ditch effort to save her life, she asks her would-be murderer to marry her. Her proposal isn’t sincere, but unfortunately for her, Shinpei loves as intensely as he kills. Can Satoko find a way to break the engagement without losing her life?
