This is the first anime project of the franchise after 32 years.
It was announced back in March that the Fairy Princess Minky Momo franchise is coming back with an OVA 32 years later. In a recent update it was revealed that this anime OVA, titled “Fairy Princess Minky Momo: A Duo of Sincerity Toward a Dream of Longing” (Mahō no Princess Minky Momo: Akogare no Yume e Magokoro no Duo) is getting a theatrical release in Japan on 13 November 2026.

Ayumu Watanabe directs the new OVA at Ashi Productions, who are also credited for the planning and original work. Deko Akao pens the scripts while Hiroshi Watanabe and Mari Tominaga design the characters. Other staff members include:

To celebrate the protagonist Minky Momo’s birthday on 30 May, an illustration has been released from the original Fairy Princess Minky Momo anime’s chief director Kunihiko Yayama.
The upcoming OVA and its theatrical release is to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Ashi Productions.
What is Fairy Princess Minky Momo about?
Originally known as Magical Princess Minky Momo, this series is part of a classic magical girl anime franchise created by Ashi Productions. The original anime aired from 1982 to 1983, and also spawned three OVAs which aired between 1985 and 1987. A second series titled Magical Princess Minky Momo: Hold on to Your Dreams aired from 1991 to 1992. A manga titled Miracle Dream Minky Momo began in 2004. The series got its Fairy Princess Minky Momo when it was released globally in English.
