We learn how Enjin got his name and Vital Instrument.

In the previous chapter of the Gachiakuta manga, we saw how Mymo became immensely powerful as he started using the Watchman Series necklace which he stole from Gountess. He ordered Rudo to kill Gountess, but before that happened, someone came and attacked Mymo, ripping his body in half. In the latest chapter, we saw the focus shift to Enjin, and we learned more about his past. How he got his name, his Vital Instrument, and how meeting one man changed his life forever. But could it be the reason why he helped Rudo in the first place?

What happens in Gachiakuta Chapter 165?

A young boy meets a mysterious man (Image: Kei Urana/ Kodansha).

The chapter begins with showing a lanky boy standing in the rain, while a man in full gear stands next to him and holds an umbrella over his head. A massive trash beast can be seen in the background. The man takes the boy into a cave and offers him some water. The boy says that he won’t get much money if he is sold. He then tells the man to make sure that he is given a decent name, if the man sells him. The man asks what his name is now, and the boy spells out a really long and complicated multi-part name, saying his parents and the following orphanages all tacked  names onto him without thought, like adding parts to a modded car.

The man tells the boy to pick his own name if he doesn’t like it, and the boy says it’s too much hassle. Noticing the tattoos on his arm, the man asks if he’s a slave. But he realises that based on what the boy said earlier, he probably ran away before anyone could sell him as a slave. We learn that there’s an orphanage that brands the kids in their care, so they could sell them at a decent price when they’re older. The institution has currently become a slave market. The young boy says it’s his fault. He ran away because his housemates were too loud and found someone who looked like he had money and talked to him. After that, the man changed the orphanage into a slave market. The boy is tired of running with this guilt.

The man listens to the story and asks the boy how the name ‘Enjin’ sounds. He says that since nobody can remember the boy’s long name, he took some components and abbreviated it. It goes perfectly with his modded car theme and in an ancient language, the word Enjin means someone who connects others. We see that the man talking to Enjin is wearing the 3R gloves that Rudo wears now. The man says this name might help the boy paint over the bad connections with some good ones. He tells Enjin that he believes the young boy is a good connection for him already.

In the next panel, we see the man’s face, and it turns out to be Alto Surebec, Rudo’s biological father and the previous user of the 3R gloves. He tells Enjin that he has a kid as well, one he has to name and is struggling with the prospect. But Enjin taught him that a name has to be easy to say and remember. He thanks Enjin as the young boy looks up at him. He gets on the back of a horselike beast and calls Enjin over too. Alto says there’s a loudmouth doctor near here who can check him out, likely talking about Alice Stilza.

As they’re about to leave, Alto hands Enjin an umbrella since his hands are full. The boy holds the umbrella over their head as the two ride out into the rain on horseback. The next panel shows us the present, where Enjin’s dark silhouette, along with his Vital Instrument Umbreaker enters the garage where Rudo, Mymo, and Gountess are. His serious and cold face dripping with blood, Enjin enters the battlefield.

What can you expect from Gachiakuta Chapter 166?

It was a whiplash to suddenly see Enjin’s backstory out of nowhere, but it was amazing. As a runaway slave, meeting a kind man like Alto Surebec changed Enjin’s life. Not only did he keep the name the man gave him, but also made the umbrella into a strong Vital Instrument named the Umbreaker. It makes so much sense why he took a liking to Rudo, likely recognising the 3R gloves the boy wore, much like his father.

It’s also probable that he is the one who attacked Mymo and ripped him in half, stopping Rudo from killing Gountess just in time. I can’t wait to see the fight break out between Enjin and Mymo’s monster form.
