The manga series is celebrating 600 million copies sold worldwide.

The 114th compiled volume of the world famous “One Piece” manga was released on 4 March, 2026. With this, the total number of One Piece manga copies has surpassed 600 million. To commemorate the occasion, author Eiichiro Oda and the editorial team revealed a brand new project. Oda will finally reveal the truth about the ‘One Piece’ and ‘Monkey D. Luffy’!

Is Eiichiro Oda finally going to reveal the secrets of the One Piece?

Well not quite. To celebrate the momentous occasion of surpassing 600 million copies in circulation, Eiichiro Oda has written down the secrets behind the One Piece and Monkey D. Luffy, and… dropped them in the ocean. That’s right, a video has been released on the official One Piece YouTube channel. At first, we learn that the truth about the One Piece was determined back in 1997, when the series first began.

We then see Eiichiro Oda writing down the secrets about both the One Piece and series protagonist Monkey D. Luffy on a piece of paper. He tears the paper in half and puts the part containing the secret in a small treasure chest. After that, the chest is sealed in a glass dome and secured with a wooden clamp. Then, some men take it on a boat to the middle of the ocean and drop it to the bottom.

That’s right, the precious secrets about the One Piece and Luffy are lying at the bottom of the ocean right now. Out of everyone’s reach. And fans will have to wait with bated breath for the final reveal in the manga.

The One Piece manga made it to the Guinness Book of World Records back in 2022, after surpassing 500 million copies in circulation. The series began serialisation in 1997 in Shueisha’s Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine. The anime adaptation began in 1999 and is still ongoing. Fans across the world are eagerly waiting for the encroaching series finale. Viz Media publishes the manga in English and describes the story as:

As a child, Monkey D. Luffy was inspired to become a pirate by listening to the tales of the buccaneer "Red-Haired" Shanks. But his life changed when Luffy accidentally ate the Gum-Gum Devil Fruit and gained the power to stretch like rubber...at the cost of never being able to swim again! Years later, still vowing to become the king of the pirates, Luffy sets out on his adventure...one guy alone in a rowboat, in search of the legendary "One Piece," said to be the greatest treasure in the world...
