Joker grapples with the loss of Batman in this upcoming anime from DC Studios.
DC Studios, Warner Bros. Animation, and Sola Entertainment have announced Joker: Laugh Riot, a new anime series centred on Batman's iconic nemesis: The Joker.
The announcement was made during the Warner Bros. Animation panel at Annecy International animation Film Festival 2026.
Although this title is not the first anime series stemming from a DC franchise, it will be the first anime to be handled by DC Studios. No other information, like the broadcast date and streaming details, have been revealed.
Who is in the staff of Joker: Laugh Riot?
Joker: Laugh Riot will be directed by Yasuhiro Aoki, whom anime fans may recognise as the director for the anime film “ChaO”. He has also previously done work for DC, as he directed the “In The Darkness Dwells” segment of Batman: Gotham Knight.
The series is being produced by Jim Krieg, while animation production will be handled by Sola Entertainment. Sola Entertainment has produced anime titles like Rooster Fighter, Lazarus, and Ninja Kamui. They were also behind the animated The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, and Rick and Morty: The Anime.
What is Joker: Laugh Riot about?
The official log-line unveiled during Annecy describes the story as:
“When Batman is murdered, the Joker launches a ruthless crusade through Gotham’s underworld to find the killer who took away his greatest adversary. But as his violent quest for answers pushes him closer towards vigilante than villain, Joker is forced to confront the truth that without Batman, he doesn’t know who he is.”
