What is Goodbye, Lara about?

Goodbye, Lara is a project to celebrate Kinema Citrus’ 15th anniversary. It’s a reimagination of the popular fairytale ‘The Little Mermaid’, set in modern day Japan. The official website describes the story as (machine translated):

Once upon a time, there was a mermaid princess named Lara. She grew up happily, loved by her father, the King of the Sea, and her sisters.

One day, Lara falls in love with a human prince who lives on land. It was a forbidden love, unacceptable in the world of mermaids .

Nevertheless, Lara sets off for the surface world.

She drinks the potion given to her by the witch Grace and transforms into a human.
However, it was a forbidden potion that would transform her into foam bubbles unless she found true love.

Despite being a mermaid princess, Lara longed for love with a human. However, her wish was not granted, and she floated in the ocean as foam.

Two hundred years later, Princess Lara the mermaid is resurrected in Lake Biwa.

This time, she will find true love.
