The 46th and final volume of the manga will come out in July.
The official X (formerly Twitter) account of Chūya Koyama’s manga “Space Brothers” has confirmed that the series will end in three more chapters. However, it hasn’t been clarified if the latest chapter, which was released on Tuesday, 12 March, is included in this. Depending on whether only two or three more chapters are coming out, the manga will end on either 2 or 9 April, 2026. The exact date has not been confirmed.
Space Brothers manga ending details
The manga began publication back in 2007 in Kodansha’s Morning magazine. After almost two decades, the series is finally coming to an end. Koyama announced in December 2022 that the manga was entering its final arc, and he already had an ending planned.
It has also been announced that the 46th and final collected volume of the manga will be shipped on 23 July, 2026. As of February 2026, the series has 34 million copies in circulation.
The manga has won several awards, including the 56th Shōgakukan Manga Award Kodansha Manga Award in 2011. It won the Reader Prize for the 18th Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize in 2014. It was also nominated twice for the Manga Taishō award in 2009 and 2010.
The Space Brothers manga has a dedicated fan following. A 99 episode long anime adaptation by A-1 Pictures aired from 2012 to 2014. It also got a live-action movie adaptation which came out in May 2012. In August 2014, an anime film titled Space Brothers #0 was released.
Kodansha also publishes the manga in English and describes the story as:
Two brothers looked to the starry skies as children and made a promise… Now, in the year 2025, the younger brother, Hibito, is carrying his out. He is an astronaut who has been selected as a crew member for mankind’s first long-term base on the moon. Meanwhile, the older brother, Mutta, has just been fired from his job and is unemployed, but decides to trust himself just one last time.
