The mangaka’s sister broke the news on her social media account.

The world of gaming and manga has suffered a massive loss, as news has surfaced that beloved Super Mario mangaka Kazuki Motoyama has died at the age of 69. He has left behind his sister, Risa Motoyama.

Kazuki Motoyama’s sister broke the news of his passing

The news of Kazuki Motoyama’s death was posted by his sister Risa Motoyama on her Instagram page. The photo is an old picture of her and her late older brother. In the caption, she let followers know that he has passed away, and thanked them for taking care of him and loving him during his lifetime. 

Motoyama worked on several different Super Mario manga series from 1988-1998. This includes manga based on Super Mario Bros 3, Super Mario Land, Super Mario World, Donkey Kong, and Super Mario 64. His final work in the series was the 1998 Nintendo 64 game Yoshi’s Story. All of these manga were published in Kodansha’s Comic BomBom magazine. 

Later, Motoyama also launched a manga titled Kinoppe-chan Forever, based on a character he created named Kinoppe. His works also include series like Dokkiri! Angel and Kirara QQQ. His younger sister Risa Motoyama is also a manga artist, who created the Start With a Happy Ending manga in 2010.
