Saizō Harawata and Miyakokasiwa’s manga series “Battle in 5 Seconds” is going on a hiatus. The hiatus is due to Miyakokasiwa’s poor health and recent diagnosis of depression. The hiatus was announced on Shogakukan’s Manga ONE website. The announcement from Miyakokasiwa read (machine translated):
Hello, this is Miyakokasiwa.
I apologize for the late notice, as I will be taking a sudden break from serialization.
I had been feeling unwell for some time, but in June I found it difficult to draw manga, so I went to the hospital for tests and was diagnosed with depression, and the underlying illness was also identified. Currently, I am taking a break from serialization to focus on treatment and recovery.
Despite this, thanks to all of you, this series has reached its 11th anniversary. This is all thanks to the readers who have continued to support me. Thank you so much!
I will do my best with my treatment so that I can return to serialization and let you all enjoy manga again as soon as possible.
The illustrator’s diagnosis of depression and several other health issues has rendered them unable to continue serialisation for a while. But hopefully, they will recover soon and the manga will come back!
Miyakokasiwa also went on a hiatus in October 2024, and announced that the manga is approaching its end. The manga resumed serialisation in January 2025.
As previously mentioned, the Battle in 5 Seconds (also known as Battle Game in 5 Seconds), is a manga adaptation of Harawata’s original webtoon. The manga began serialising in Shogakukan’s Manga ONE and Ura Sunday platforms in 2015. The manga received an anime adaptation which aired from July to September 2021.
