The anime, which was teased way back in 2022, has finally been acknowledged after years of silence.
You read that right, after seemingly being stuck in developmental hell since its announcement in 2022, the Genshin Impact anime adaptation is now confirmed to still be in the works, thanks to a promotional reel released by animation studio ufotable.
It's safe to say that Travellers were ecstatic with the update. The anime project, which had not released any updates in the four years since its announcement, is still gearing up to premiere on your screens some time in the future!
When will the Genshin Impact anime drop?
Unfortunately, ufotable is yet to reveal when exactly the Genshin Impact anime will drop. The confirmation of the anime only included a short animation of the traveller twins, Aether and Lumine, as part of the “future projects” lineup of the studio. However, considering the stacked roster of titles that ufotable has confirmed, we'll likely see the anime debut in its entirety in the next few years.
The format for the project itself, whether it will be a full-blown series or a film, is still up in the air, too.
But judging from the concept trailer that HoYoverse and ufotable released in 2022, it's highly likely that the anime project will coincide with the current timeline of the game, as opposed to being a “prequel” of the hit gacha. The concept trailer featured scenic recreations of the city of Mondstadt and its surrounding areas.
Genshin Impact is an open-world adventure RPG by developer HoYoverse, and was released in 2020 to high acclaim. The game follows an amnesiac interstellar traveller who lands in the world of Teyvat with their twin sibling, and where their missing memories hold the key to the various mysteries, events, and tragedies that occurred within each nation at the time of their arrival.
The game is set to release its new update, Version Luna V, which will feature the debut of Varka on 25 February, 2026.
