The manga will publish three more chapters.

Shojo fans are in for some heartbreak. The popular manga series Akatsuki no Yona (Yona of the Dawn), is coming to an end on 19 December, 2025. It has been announced officially that the manga will release three more chapters before the final goodbye. Fans who have been on this journey since 2009 are understandably heartbroken.

Akatsuki no Yona still stands as one of the best shojo series in history

The Akatsuki no Yona manga series, written and illustrated by Mizuho Kusanagi, began back in 2009. Set in a fantasy world, it follows a princess named Yona as she tries to save her country after a coup. Due to the lovable and strong nature of the heroine, and the incredible storytelling, the manga became a fan-favourite in no time. In 2014, it also inspired a popular 24-episode anime by Pierrot.

For the past 16 years, the Akatsuki no Yona manga has been serialising in Hakusensha’s Hana to Yume magazine. In June 2024, the mangaka revealed that the manga was in its final arc. In July 2025, the series went on a hiatus, and returned on 3 October.  Unfortunately, it was revealed that the series is coming to an end this year on 19 December. But it’s a great time to catch up with the story if you have been storing the chapters for a long binge-reading session (that’s what I’ll do)!

Viz Media publishes the manga volumes in English and describes the story as:

Princess Yona lives an ideal life as the only princess of her kingdom. Doted on by her father, the king, and protected by her faithful guard Hak, she cherishes the time spent with the man she loves, Su-won. But everything changes on her 16th birthday when tragedy strikes her family!
